Yesterday I finally gave Sirius a call to cancel our subscription. Last year I got suckered into another yearly subscription but not this time. I am actually quite annoyed the Sirius "conveniently" auto-renews subscriptions. Last year I had actually planned on renewing - I just didn't want it to happen automatically.
This year was different, however. I opted to cancel for a few reasons, though I think the biggest reason was the fact that The System and Boombox were killed and Area became crappy. I was really excited about the merger because of The System since I thought it to be a better trance channel than Area. The other big reason is that I don't drive the Jetta much (the only car we have with Sirius) since it's the safer of our two cars and I would much prefer Corey and Camden use that. Since Corey doesn't listen to Sirius much, it just didn't make financial sense to renew.
I will say this, though. When I first setup my subscription it was a huge pain. I had to talk to a guy I could barely understand and feel comfortable giving my credit card out over the phone. I was expecting a much worse experience when I called to cancel, but actually the guy on the phone was really nice and almost even understanding of why I was opting to cancel. Though he did have to try to rope me back in, he was up-front about the fact that he was required to do so and all that. Wasn't bad.
I was planning on getting Sirius in the Volvo but it's not a high priority. Maybe when they offer the IndyCar channel for free to regular customers and bring back the channels I miss I might reconsider. For now, I'll just have to stick to Podcasts (which, by the way,
Intercity and
Trance Around the World are awesome!)...
