Today my copy of Stephen Colbert’s new silly single arrived in the mail. This is my first new vinyl record I have ever owned. It was pretty fun to spin it for the first time, too, I must say! The record itself is a semi-serious sort of gag gift. It is actually Stephen Colbert with The Black Belles and comes as a 7″ single. Side A is Charlene II and Side B is Charlene performed by The Black Belles. I’m saving side B for my new turntable but I spun side A today. Had a good sound to it, although my turntable plays 45’s slightly fast come to find out. The quality isn’t the main reason I bought the single though. Wanted to have it sort of just cause since, well, it’s Stephen Colbert and I really enjoyed the segments of him and Jack White on The Colbert Report. The Black Belles are also rather intriguing.

What is my new turntable? Well, everything is in the mail at the moment but I have coming a Technics SL-D2 I bought off eBay; a Shure M97xE MM cartridge, and a TC-750 phono pre-amp. Going to take a little while to get here but I’m super excited! I have to say though, record collecting, whether new or otherwise, can easily turn into an interesting addiction…
